Cemetery scavenger hunt, adding gravel around the house and a quick crochet project

It was a welcomed overcast day.  We didn't get any of the rain that others did but it did cool down to 71*.

Perfect weather for a cemetery visit...smile.

I like to visit cemeteries.  My mom used to take us to old cemeteries on the Outer Banks of North Carolina when I was growing up.  She taught us to take headstone rubbing with rice paper and charcoal.  We were never afraid or thought it was strange to visit cemeteries.  They are filled with so much history and interesting stories.

Today I set off to find Alfred Packer and a "vampire's" grave this morning .

First stop, Littleton Cemetery.

Alfred Packer is famous in Colorado as the Colorado Cannibal who, in 1874, became lost in the San Juan Mountains during a harsh winter and confessed to resorting to cannibalism to stay alive.

I think it is funny that it notes that later in life he became a vegetarian.

Then I head to Lafayette Cemetery to find the Vampire Grave.  Mr Fodor Glava was  41 year old who die a pauper and buried with the only hand carved headstone in the cemetery. He is called a Vampire simply because his crudely scratched out headstone says he was from Transylvania, he was tall, gaunt and supposedly had long fingernails … oh, and there is a tree growing where his heart would have been … from a stake?  Oh the myths we build.  As they say... "it is not the dead we need to fear but rather the living".

He was born in 1877 and died in 1918 of the flu.

The morning flew by and soon I was back home.

We had a load of gravel delivered to place around the house to deter water and weeds.

We will need another small load to finish. We got the back of the house done and some of the front.

I have leftover yarn from the fish tail and made some crocheted water balloons for my grandkids. I still have a bunch of yarn and will make more.

And lastly … from the Library …

peace
