Farm Life

I guess you could say homesteading was in my blood. My grandpa would go out and feed the wild horses that came down from the mountains in Colorado. My dad loved gardening and raising his bees. He also was really into survivalist methods. As kids we would always be looking at his "camping" book. My mom was always busy with something—canning, sewing, crafts and keeping six kids busy. Our life at home was always buzzing with something. So it was a natural progression and a round about path that started me on my life as a homesteader.

I started gardening when I lived in downtown Denver, setting up a garden and a homemade greenhouse in my backyard. I eventually even got bees. In 2006 I married Dude (aka Rick) and we set out on our adventure together. We moved to the eastern plains of Colorado, officially joining the ranks of homesteaders. To save money we bought a HUD home and 10 acres. Since Rick is handy, the first year we lived in one room of the house while remodeling the rest.  Remodeling is ongoing but, Im happy to say,  we are no longer in just one room.

My husband and I work fulltime outside the home. This blog is of the challenges and successes we have along the way. I am not an expert at anything but love to learn and share what I know. We have 6 grown children and 6 grandchildren. I am Catholic, a wife, a mom, a grandmom, homesteader, quilter, love to craft all while trying to live the faith in a funky world.
