Thursday update

Animals are the central part of our life. If you don't like animals you shouldn't have a homestead, in my opinion. For us, kindness is a must.  We makes sure they all have what they need daily... water, food, fresh hay and clean place to live.  They get medicine and vitamins when they need it.  And if necessary, when they move on to a new home, we make sure they go to people who believe as we do , to be kind and humane as possible.

Meet Lucy, one of our new baby chicks.  She is named after Saint Lucy. Saint Lucy had consecrated her virginity to God.  After refusing into an arrange marriage the govern planned to force her into prostitution. When the guards came to get her they were unable to remove her from her cell.  The governor then decided to put her to death but not before she was tortured , had her eyes torn out , they attempted to burn her but the fire kept going out and finally she was stabbed with a dagger. (brutal, I know) Legend says her eyesight was restored before her death.   She is the Patron Saint of the Blind.

Our chick Lucy was born with something wrong with her eyes. We can't tell if other chicks did this or if it is a deformity.  As far we can tell she is blind in at least one eye.  We took all the chicks in from their moms.  We had to separate Lucy from the other chicks. Despite her size, being larger than the others, she is tortured by the other chicks. They peck at her constantly. She has her own little apartment near the other chicks.  The plan is she will be the family pet... yes, kind of like Angelo, the meat goat. (He hates it when I call him the meat goat. He says I might as well have named him Dinner...wink)

The back porch is torn off. The inspector is arriving this morning to inspect the caissons. Then let the building begin!

Seed I am working with this weekend.

I need to get out before heading to work and transplant some of my herbs. Dude says they are coming out for some type of a walk between the back doors.

Parsley

Mint

I love it when I find something like this later on.
