Snow day , sewing and card making

We got a bit of snow and we both love it. We prepped yesterday making sure we had our firewood in and dried, 5 gallon jugs filled with water in case the power goes out (you can't flush a toilet without power), ready made foods available, candles, hand sanitizer/baby wipes, toilet paper (I have a fear of running out) and made sure the animals all had fresh bedding, food and water with warmers... oh, and Dude made sure there was plenty of coffee (note for me... tea is getting low, smile)  Power stayed on and all was well. The highway did close. More snow is due Friday and Saturday, we are prepared. We got 8-10 inches of snow but the drifts were one to two feet in areas.

Dude worked clearing the porches and walk-ways to the barns. Then he pushed snow with the tractor.

Norman had been out almost two hours with Dude but I made him come in. I was concerned about his feet freezing. He thought otherwise and cried watching Dude outside. Dude loves being out there and was out all day, mostly riding in the warm tractor and then shoveling.

I got working on cleaning the house. We are hosting Thanksgiving.

I moved all the tea, cocoa, instant coffee and cereals over to a station I created.  Dude likes an occasional pop so I moved it there too and out of the way.  The whole thing  hidden in a pocket of the room and out of the way.

Then I had a ton of catching up to do with sewing and crafts. Okay, I could live to be 100 years old and never be caught up!

I got all the squares done on the scrap quilt and hope to get the sashing done tomorrow. There are nine squares. White sashing will go between the squares and the border is a light green.

I did get some cards made.

Ten cards made from a kit.

They are 3D.

One of my grandson's birthday is tomorrow. I am glad I froze some cupcakes. They just need to be frosted. He will be 3 and wants pink and purple cupcakes. (He is a fan of Peppa Pig)

I don't think he will mind the wrappers are Halloween. *smile*

Tomorrow we will get the Thanksgiving dinner cooked . Dude will cook a local ham and one of our chickens. We want to be able to just enjoy our time with family on Thursday.

Snowy Sunday on the Homestead

I love snow and it is a beautiful snowy day.   Days like today we rest, take long baths, and read.

We have a fire in the woodstove and double layer of clothes before heading out to feed the animals. Indoor animals are warm and snug. One hung out behind the woodstove.

Snow makes the world quiet.

Potato soup is brewing in the crockpot.

I finished this little cross stitch.

I settled in to finish a cowl. I used this pattern here. I can't wait to wear it tomorrow with a black shirt.

Dude will spend the evening watching football.  I will be in the sewing room searching fabric.  One of my sons has requested new pillow cases for his son.  As a mom, this is the best way to end a day, creating for family.

Also a shout out to my oldest son for heading out in the snow to take his 86year old grandma to the mall to walk and then over to see family before taking her back to my brother's home.  Everyone has been pitching in helping my mom.  My family doesn't always get along the best but when we need each other we are an amazing group.

What we're are crafting on a Sunday Snow Day.

I was excited before heading to bed last night thinking it might be a snow day. I was so glad when I woke up and found it was!  Prudence (the small lamb) doesn't look as pleased as I was.

Norman loved it!

This meant it was a day of crafting for us.

My sister from another mother brought me this fabulous fabric!!
I have a wild idea for this fabric and began cutting it out. I hope it works.

Dude began to work on his train with the football game playing in the background.

I also wanted to see how easy these candies would be to make so melted the green candies in the microwave and used a butter knife to put into the mold.  Then off to the freezer to harden.

There was some leftover glasses from the party. One of my friends broke her glass when she got home.  I etched her a new one.

I wanted to make brownies and got the box out to make them. When I went to bake them someone swapped the box for an angel food cake mix.  Okay... have it your way... but my way... grin... you'll see what I mean in a minute.

I took a break while it baked. My grandson facetimed me.  He was having cocoa in the mug he made yesterday while I had tea.  We chatted for a good long while about crafts, his friend Davis and his game of match cards.

A friend left these amazing cookies yesterday. I wish I could remember the name of them.  You place them over your coffee or tea cup and in the thin middle layer is caramel that slowly melts.  oh be still my heart!

Time for the cake to disembark the tube pan!

My candies turned out wonderful and decorated the cake with them!

Bahahaha

The mousers were so tired of working all night out in the field and snow. The had a well-deserved rest in front of the fire.

Tonight is a new book.

Snow day, sewing room and crockpot potato corn chowder

It was a snowy day.  When we went out this morning it was only 13* and flakes coming down.

Chores still need to be done.

Our horses have a beautiful barn but they chose to stand outside.

The geese like the snow.

And call out to relatives who flew by.

After chores I had breakfast and  went in to clean the sewing room. It is a mess.
Found Norman, the dog's, babies who need repairing. I will need to sew them either when he is in bed or with the door closed.  He says , politely, he would like them back please.

I did have an assistant.

She had to approve everything.  Such a bossy worker.

After breakfast I began to get dinner ready.  Crockpot potato corn chowder.

Bacon and onion on the griddle just after our pancakes.

Eggs were washed while I waited for those to cook.

From the pantry I grabbed dried carrots and red pepper.

and dill seed.

It turned out soooo good.

I like mine topped with chipotle peppers with adobo sauce chopped up. OMG

Easy clean up.

Here's the recipe.

Grill or cook the 4 slices of bacon and small chopped onion until cooked.
Place in the crockpot.
In the crockpot add:

2 cups of chicken broth
2 cups of water
3 large potatoes scrubbed and sliced
1 can of corn with liquid (pantry item I buy by the case)
a large pinch of crushed dill seed
1/2 cup dried carrot
2 tablespoons chopped red dried pepper (I used scissors and just cut them)
salt and pepper

Cook 7 hours.

Then in a bowl combine 2 cups of half and half with 1/2 a cup of flour. Whisk.
Add
1 cup of evaporated milk (another pantry must for me, I buy them by 5 cans at a time)

Slowly add to the crockpot and simmer for 20minutes.

Top with cheese, and chipotle in adobo sauce (chopped) with the sauce. (optional)

Dude doesn't like the chipotles put he gave it 2 thumbs up.

Midday the dog and I went for a walk.  I wish I could have gone longer but it was so cold to breathe in.

Back to the sewing room and cleaning.
Hope you all are warm and happy.
