A day of visiting, finishing projects and getting ready for winter

Busy day today. It was a day of visiting, finishing projects and getting ready for winter.  It started with prepping jars for canning beans. I had all kinds that I wanted to put in the pressure canner. Azuki, Navy, Garbanzo and even Mung beans.

Zucchinis were picked.

Pumpkins are looking good.

Lots of butternut squash growing.

Eggs washed. Plus there about 30 eggs we found that the guineas had hit. I threw those away.

Then we went to our work picnic. I wish I had gotten pictures of the adult sack race. It was hilarious!

On the way home we stopped and saw one of my grandsons. He was ready for football game.

Then we came home. Dude need to rest.  My sister and I got busy. She is finishing hand stitching this baby quilt. So adorable.

I started my sewing my shirt while beans were in the canner.

My brother-in-law started stacking our wood for the winter. Tomorrow they head home to Texas. You can follow them at Brubaker Farms on Facebook.

The canner was filled and hissed away.

Dude even got out there and worked with his one good arm.

Nice job.

I will keep working on the blouse while everyone watches the game.  The pressure on the canner is now coming down and I will have the results to show tomorrow

Oh, and pay a little attention to the peanut gallery.

5th day of Christmas- tacos and cleaning

Dinner was tacos but with twist.  We built ours from the bottom up with goat cheese we made yesterday, beans we canned this month, Dude added beef to his, lettuce and spinach picked yesterday from the green house, the last surviving tomato from the garden, onions, and topped with salsa canned last month. I loved when Dude says the goat cheese made the difference. The best tacos we have ever tasted.
So good we didn't even think to take a picture.

It always felt like the new year was a day or so after Christmas. Dude tried to escape by splitting wood outside.  I spent the day focusing on cleaning closets, sorting boxes of Christmas stuff, and tidying up the place. The weather was perfect for it - cold and frigid.  Looking back on journals, no matter what I was  focusing on at that time,  today was a cleaning day.  Interesting. So, like my biological rhythms in life , I was cleaning and sorting again today.  When you clear your space, you clear your mind. It was good to end the day with a clean home.

Tomorrow I begin to finish the 10,000 projects I have started or I will get rid of them too... like the stuffed cat I never finished because I only had one eye for it.  Grin.

Goodnight

Vacation from work in the city.

I am so happy to have my vacation from work in the city this week. Much is planned- sewing, cooking, crocheting, canning, card making....oh so much to do and so little time.

A farmer friend from up northern Colorado gave me a bag of his beans.  I am a Bean Freak!  A batch of pintos are soaking now!  A big thank you to him!!!

I did manage to make a small batch of salsa from the tomatoes I brought in from the greenhouse. I have one more group of green tomatoes ripening. Hope to get another batch of salsa made from it.
