House plants tables, dinner, and a crochet project.

I made the mistake of leaving my Thanksgiving shopping until this morning. I thought if I went early in the morning I would avoid the crowds... wrong. Everyone else had the same idea. At least, it is done. 

I brought in some old coffee tables from outside for houseplants.  I covered them with plastic tablecloths I bought today. 

I have one that needs refinished that my Dad made over 40 years ago. I saved it for another family member until they could pick it up but no time to refinish it for now. 

So I brought it indoors too and covered with a plastic tablecloth. 

Yep, I left a space for more plants. 

Don't throw away the bags from the tablecloths. I recycled them for small sewing projects and crocheting. (otherwise I am always missing a bit or piece I really, really need)

Dinner tonight was squash , salad and eggs. 

Salad was lettuce, apples, pomegranates and goat cheese. 

Spaghetti squash baked at 425* for 45 minutes. Then tossed with butter, pecans and dates that had been sautéed .

I have to admit that I was surprised my meat-eating husband enjoyed dinner. 

My grandson has a beach trip in the future so I made him a lanyard for his luggage. If I make it again I will need to use a thinner yarn. The pattern (from Crochet Crowd) is not difficult but was a struggle since the yarn was thick and the hook so small. The how-to video was short, so I thought it would be quick but for me... it took a few days... smile. Okay, there were times I wanted to throw it across the room... grin.

What did Dude do last week, an apple salad and crafting a money jar

Dude has been very busy, as always.  I thought I'd give you a peek into what he has been doing. Right now he is off to the hardware store to get grease for the tractor and then turning the compost. 

He put together a chicken coop for someone. 

Stained and delivered.

And how do you think we get perfectly straight rows in our gardens... yes, Dude.

Plus, always fixing a fence somewhere

or making sure our toilets can flush...ugh. 

all this after he rearranges what I have put in the dishwasher...wink.

From that garden I made another salad today. 

Mixed greens, apples, dates, walnuts, and red onion. 

Topped with a little apricot hard goat cheese. 

The dressing was balsamic vinegar, stone ground mustard and small bit of maple syrup.

Put them up for meals during the week.

Listening to... all I can say is...oh...my … goodness.

Money Monday … I wanted to make a money jar for one of my grandsons.  I got an old pickle jar... I save a box of them, we try to recycle whatever we can. Mod Podge the whole thing and cover in fabric. 

I finished the bottom of it when I got home from work.

and glittered up the lid.

Now to let everything dry until tomorrow. Then add a dinosaur to the lid.

I will post how it turns out tomorrow.

Sewing Day

Today is Sewing Day.  I love Sewing Day. Once a month a bunch of folks who like to play with textiles get together to sew.  It give you a feel for times past when everyone got together to talk and get creative...oh, and time to work on a project! 

The host provides the main event for the food everyone else brings a side dish or dessert. I had a bunch of apples so I decided to make an apple salad. 

Coarsely chopped apples tossed into lemon water so they don't turn brown. 

  
Add raisins... Dude says, " more raisins please!"

And some walnuts. 

For the dressing I mixed ricotta cheese, sour cream, cinnamon, nutmeg, brown sugar all in a food processor and pour over the salad.  It's a good and fun twist on Waldorf Salad. 

Farmgirls carpooled together for the drive into the city.  We make sure spinning wheel are strapped in... safety first.  *smile*

The main event at the potluck were meat and vegetarian sliders.  Boy were they good. 

Kale potato sausage soup....ohboy.

I took a little of everything! 

Then time to get busy....

I had to include this... one of the lady's kindergarten class made paper "quilts". 

 We added another new member ... Nathaniel .

I was a goofball as always but my mom looks great. 

 
We love the young ones joining us. Can you imagine the stories she will tell her own children some day?

Vera was mesmerized by the spinning of wool. 

And before we knew it , it was time to pack up and head home.  ...sigh.
