Craft for today's Gospel - :Behold, the Lamb of God"

Gospel Jn 1:29-34

John the Baptist saw Jesus coming toward him and said,
“Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.
He is the one of whom I said,
‘A man is coming after me who ranks ahead of me
because he existed before me.’
I did not know him,
but the reason why I came baptizing with water
was that he might be made known to Israel.”
John testified further, saying,
“I saw the Spirit come down like a dove from heaven
and remain upon him.
I did not know him,
but the one who sent me to baptize with water told me,
‘On whomever you see the Spirit come down and remain,
he is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.’
Now I have seen and testified that he is the Son of God.”

Last week read  Matthew's version of this Gospel and we did a bunch of Dove crafting and discussed why would Jesus need baptism if he is without sin and the significance of water.  Today, we focused on the Lamb.

Behold the Lamb of God-Behold the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.” John 1:29b. They are spoken every time we attend Mass when the priest holds up the Sacred Host.

We went back to the old testament and the lamb's blood over the doors during Passover, what's the significance?   ...And lambs we know....

You don't need many supplies, just yarn, cardboard, scissor and a black marker or crayon.

Make the body of your lamb. Be sure to color both sides of the head.

Oh and cut out two legs and color.  Wrap your lamb and simply tuck in the legs.

Fred got very creative! Sunglasses for his lamb!

They had so much fun a couple of them wanted to bring yarn home and make a flock.  Yes!

Church, Barn-warming party, Wood splitting and Chili night.

We started the day a wee bit late since I was up canning last night. But when I did finally get up I made us a big breakfast of breakfast quesadilla with eggs, cheese, jalapenos, bacon, onions and Dude's had potatoes. It was a great way to start the day.

I was quickly out the door for morning Adoration. I was the only person there during my hour. I am sure many were shopping or better yet, helping others cook the Chili Dinner for tonight at the Fairgrounds.

After prayers I headed to the library to return books and yes, pick up more!
The over to our Farm Sister - Sunny's barn warming party.
Isn't it gorgeous!

That is not a weather vane on her milking shed but a real peacock.

The party was fun and great to celebrate with so many friends.

Then it was time for a picture so we all headed out to the barn. The geese followed loudly proclaiming they had never seen such a large herd of humans before!

Let's go people!

Smile everyone!

Everyone had to leave to do their own farm chores including us.  Our hens were taking in the warm weather when we got home ...well , warm for this time of year.. in the 40's*.

We had to get wood split while the sun was still out. It was beginning to get chilly. You could see our breath coming out of our mouths and hitting the cold air.  I went out to help. I pulled the lever while Dude loaded the wood.

For 30 minutes we sure did get alot done. We split cedar and cottonwood.

I had to stop so I could get to mass.  On the way there you could see the town was getting ready for the evening Christmas parade. It is so beautiful when it is all lit up.

The night ended at the town's chili dinner. It was fun to relax and laugh with neighbors and church friends.

The day was wonderful and very fun or as Dude says, it was like a Hallmark movie.
Hope you have your Hallmark moment this weekend.
peace.

Mass out on the prairie and beginning to prep for winter

Sunday is usually our fun day but it is also about family.  We decide to drive two hours away to see a family member in the hospital recovering from cancer surgery.  It is something we wanted to do, not something we had to do. It was a gorgeous day and the drive was nice.

This meant I had to go to mass early. Since we only have one mass in our town I had to go to the next town over for the 730am mass.  This church is in the middle of corn fields and dairies.  There is nothing else around. I drove a half hour down dusty dirt roads to get there.

You know you are in farm country when you go to church and there is a bucket load  full of free veggies.

This was the end of mass. Despite the early hour it was a full house.

It was fun to be at a different church but not totally. Our priest also says mass here as well.
After mass we were soon on the road.
We got home around 5pm. Took the goats and horse for a walk and then in to prep for this week's lunches. Eggs were put on to boil.

Prepping for winter -  Prepping for winter is a serious time for us. We prepare food all year long, drying, canning and making sure we have staples like flour, sugar, beans and salt.  Our winters can be harsh.  Living out on the prairie we get blizzards and blowing snow. Roads close and we can get cutoff  from stores.  We will be prepping two big things this week: Fire wood and Water.  We did have power go out this year. March is our snowiest month and this year we had a blizzard with three feet of snow.
During the storm we couldn't see across the homestead.

It was beautiful when it ended.

My sister was visiting from Texas. She had never seen anything like this and had to climb over the three feet of snow.

Since we were all safe at home and prepared it was fun. But when the power went out we were glad we had a wood stove, plenty of wood, and a gas stove - as long as we had a match we could cook. Wood is our main source of heat in the winter.
Water - you need a lot of water when the power goes out. Animals need clean water every day! You need water to flush toilets (they don't work when the power goes out unless you manually put water in the tank), wash dishes, clean up and to drink/cook with.  We store ours a few of ways. We store it five gallon jugs, milk jugs, and bottled water.  Plus if we are growing anything in the greenhouse it will need water. Water is extremely important. I would rather be without power before I am without water.  We have been there when we were without a well for over a month. Hauling water is no fun. I am so happy we can now collect rain water.
So, this week's focus is on collecting fire wood and water.
I will give other prepping tips this week that we use.

Happy Sunday.

Sunday Funday - Mass, Finished some WIPs and a Horse

It was a busy Sunday Funday. First off to Mass. It was full and I tried to sneak in and the choir flagged me over to sit with them in the back of the church. They promised only 2 songs so I said ...hmm what the heck. Besides they are a fun group!

Reading 2HEB 12:1-4

Brothers and sisters:
Since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses,
let us rid ourselves of every burden and sin that clings to us
and persevere in running the race that lies before us
while keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus,
the leader and perfecter of faith.
For the sake of the joy that lay before him
he endured the cross, despising its shame,
and has taken his seat at the right of the throne of God.
Consider how he endured such opposition from sinners,
in order that you may not grow weary and lose heart.
In your struggle against sin
you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding blood.

Next up I got a pork roast in the crock pot to make tamales with tomorrow with the Farmgirls before heading to work and then I settled in to sew, finishing up a few more projects. I knew I would be sitting a while so I made a deal with myself... every project I finish I must go for a walk before starting another.  I have been walking 10k a day with my coworkers and then found out at church there will be a walk to raise money for our windows.

Project one...completed.  Who knew it would be a sign of how the day would end.

Project done so had to get out to walk.  My dog knows that if I grab a rosary we are heading out for a prayer walk. She is so excited.

Next project ... a table runner that Dude wanted done. He now wants a six foot runner to go on our 8 foot breakfast bar.

Finished and quilted.

Next walk is a goat prayer walk. They love these.

Next project was a wallhanging that I needed back and sandwich.

finished!

And then this happened.  Dude found himself a horse. He is so excited. They will deliver him Tuesday. His name is Buttons.
(the kitten was just cute)

Happy Sunday Funday!
