When we first moved here we asked folks what we should name our property. Someone responded with, "what kind of trees do you have?" … uh, none. Our ground was hard, compact and full of clay and rocks. We are constantly working the land and adding dirt, fertilizer and compost. Here are our results for trees we have planted and babied along the way.
Aspen (adding more compost around them today)
Austree
Apple

Purple-leaf sand cherry

Even the peach tree the dog chewed up is coming back!
There is hope for this dry hard land of the once Dust Bowl !
This morning I decide to try making a breakfast enchilada casserole. In place of the chicken I made scrambled eggs. I made them the same way I would make chicken enchilada...
Green chilis and onions.
For an 8x8 baking dish I scrambled 6 eggs.
Add a cup of shredded cheese.
Filled corn tortillas.
Top with salsa verde and another cup of cheese.
Bake 350* for 20 minutes. Topped with sour cream and jalapeños. Dude gave it 2 thumbs up!
Early this morning the post office called to say our new turkey chicks had arrived and needed to be picked up.
I bought bronze and white version of the Broad Breasted turkeys. Last time we raise this breed our turkey got to 45 pounds and had to have the butcher cut it in half to get it into the oven!
They are adorable. We brought them out to the chick house and got them settled in with food, water and a warming light. They had been traveling for two days and were very thirsty.
Can't wait to check on them in the morning.
Dude planted more in the garden today. Here are beans and collards.
Next to the onions he planted corn.
At the back of the greenhouse is watermelon and cantaloupe.
We will see how well it grows out here on the dry hard plains.
peace
