Thursday chores, what are we dehydrating and crafting today?

This week was a lot of putting out little fires and driving back and forth to Denver and the foothills to help family and friends.

Today I had to get back to working on the homestead.

Coffee and letter writing started the day. I had to get out birthday cards for the second half of the month and a couple of thank you's! I picked some out from the ones I made and got to writing.

Someone looked on as I wrote. Yes, that is snow and ice STILL on our land but the mud is pretty much gone, thank goodness. 

Out in time before the mail person came by. 

Dishes, laundry, plants watered, animals fed and a walk were priority this morning. A goal for 2020 get outside every day and exercise. 

Despite looking like evening , this was our very chilly morning walk. 

Canadian geese are on the move ...it is snowing in the mountains and I wonder if we will get some snow next week.

I was tired of these two literally playing cat and mouse all week. I took the grate off, we shall see what happens from here. 

I love salt and vinegar …anything. I had two zucchinis that I didn't want to juice . I decide to dry them as salt and vinegar …and pepper chips. 

Ready for the dehydrator. 

Not quite all the way dry, an hour or two more, but they will be good. 

Remember this animal portrait I did?  I began another project but can't show it quite yet, it's a gift. I hope it works out as well.

But I can show you one octopus I finished for my grandson, tomorrow I will make one from the black "rainbow" yarn. 

I sent him this picture and he called saying he loved it! (eyes will be added since he is 3 years old)

Sunday update

Just a quick update of our Sunday.  

It was great to begin a day with friends visiting. As always, it goes by quickly. 

After lunch, I made my way toward Boulder to deliver and share in what we grow … Chickens and eggs today. 

I had to move this bad boy (turkey) out of the way to get to our chickens. 

Bingo.... even frozen they look beautiful. 

The day was gorgeous, despite being very windy.   The temperature was in the 60s.  Yes, those are snow clouds making their way across the Rockies. 

Here is what I was listening to to help the hours pass. I had forgotten what a wonderful book it is. 

And on I went...

I made it home in time to sit and enjoy the Super Bowl.  We are having a fairly healthy meal of chicken and roasted veggies. 

Made a second batch of veggies to take to work tomorrow. 

We went for a quick walk before settling in .  The wind was harsh. 

I had to laugh. I put my hands in my pocket to help ward off the wind and found an egg. 

These two came bouncing along to greet us. 

The rest of the afternoon and night will be the GAME, reading and meditating.

Busy day ~ happy Saturday

Today was one of those days where I didn't think I would get everything done.  The morning chores and breakfast were finished.  I needed to drive the truck to find hay, cat litter and a few groceries. Dude was not feeling well and his shoulder was hurting. 

I got in the truck... okay, I drive a Prius... you just push a button and go. I stared at the console for a bit and then realized oh, duh, I need a key.  I finally got it started and the first song on the radio was Bon Jovi singing …"it's now or never".   How appropriate... thank goodness it wasn't Crazy Train. Backing out the song changes to … "what doesn't kill you makes you strong".  Time to breathe, sit up straight and get 'er done. 

First stop was the home and garden store... oh look … giant mums for sale. I bought two, then I had to get dirt to plant them.  That was hilarious... okay, dang, they were heavy!

I did get hay...but I had to ask Dude what am I asking for ? Hay? Timothy Hay? Grass... They were all out of everything except grass hay.  The guy looked at the back of the truck loaded with dirt, giant mums and now this and said, "you ain't doing all this yourself!"   I just laughed and kept on going.   Truth is, I'm not. My sons are coming over tomorrow to help. 

I was exhausted when I got home and took a wee nap. I wasn't sure I was going to get everything done but I did. I feel like I really need to get in shape, get into some type of exercise routine. Well, it wasn't quite exercise but we did get outside.

 Dude and I  took our evening walk. 

The moon was already out and ready to get to work. 

I saw a sad sight.  Our friend the hawk was dead in the tree.  We loved watching him on our walks. Don't know what happened, just so sad to see. 

I love this stump.

Dinner was sea scallops, shrimp and salad. The roast I put in the crockpot wasn't finished. Sometimes, okay many times, things don't go as planned. 

It was time to tuck in the animals. 

I was lucky to get a prayer walk in with the turkeys. They are such good friends.

Goodnight kisses were given all around.
