Gardening in cool weather and a quick toddler activity

The breeze this morning was cold . The forecast is rain and maybe storms with hail this afternoon. It is already snowing in the mountains ...and yes , it is June.

I went to fill up the car with gas, just in case.  There were two young ladies there who asked me about the weather. They had heard their may be hail and possible tornadoes.  Yes. Then asked, is there a liquor store nearby?  I laughed.  Everyone has priorities... my is fuel and theirs is a fuel of a different kind.

I wanted to get out early and work in the garden before it began to rain. It was warm and steamy in the greenhouse.

Dude did get our two new elm trees planted. This was no easy feat. Despite the recent rains the ground was still hard as a rock.   I have visions of birds in them next year.

Raspberries are doing well. Dude kept saying they were dead and I told him not to dare pull them up. I had faith in them and here they are ...smile.

This is something that baffles me.  Two grape plants right next to each other.

One small and struggling.

One thriving...

I laid more cardboard for a new garden for flowers and lavender.

A layer of wool..

This was my supervisor this morning.

Then added a layer of compost... tomorrow I will add a bag of fresh dirt.

I picked roses and mint to dry for the chicken coop.

It began to sprinkle , so I had to see one of my grandsons.  The temperature dropped to 54* this evening... so much for the first day of Summer.

I found a fun craft for the afternoon in this book:

They called the craft - grape structures .  We called them - building molecules...okay, I just really like hearing a two year old saying molecules.

He really enjoyed creating them.

Tuesday with the Toddler

I did get the Money Jar finished for the little one.... He loves dinos.  The Stegosaurus helps open up the jar way better than just the lid.   Uh, yes, I got scolded by Dude for having glitter in the house.  If you are married to me, there will always be glitter somewhere.  I have lots of jars of glitter that need to be used up and make the world a bit more sparkling.

I think he will like it.

I  had a chance to go see the Toddler today.   We did a little bit of painting today.  I brought some recycled cardboard tubes... aka empty toilet paper rolls... grin.

We cut lots of spikes .  Then the Toddler made sure the spikes all got smooched down. It's a very important job.

Then, after squirting paint onto a paper, dipped the tubes into the paint and  onto a big piece of paper.

We painted exploding flowers.

 Beautiful flowers!

It was a fun time.

We played outside and later he worked in the yard with his Uncle.  I was so glad to have time with them before heading to work!

Day 4 - Crafting !

It is amazing what you can make out of simple things.  This is a glass from the Dollar Store with a simple cutout decoupaged to it and sprinkled with a wee bit of glitter.  Feathers, a gift from the lawn birds.
Today is Toddler Tuesday. I try to stop by each Tuesday morning and see one of my grandsons.  He is the only one not in school so I need to take advantage of see him as much as I can.  Over on the blog Catholic Icing I saw a cute way to make a Baby Jesus and manger. Check them out, they have some great ideas.   So that's what we did … made a sock Baby Jesus.

I did the snipping and he did the stuffing!

This is the "smile!" face.

Later I made clove spiked oranges... oh the smell was wonderful.  I mixed them with cinnamon scented pine cones and added a few other fun things for Christmas.

I like the way they turned out but the aroma is even better.
