Saturday chores, concert, glass craft finished and dinner.

The morning was spent doing chores, going to the store and making a big breakfast. 

My chores are with Mama Goat and the babies. Then the chickens and all the new babies, the guineas, the geese and the turkeys. 

Plus giving the dog her medicine.

Mama , aka Peppy waits patiently  and calls out that she is hungry. 

The kids can't wait to get out and jump on everything. 

Maggie waits for the chores to be done.

We named the little buck Tobias meaning the Goodness of God. 

And this little one we named Mrs. Periwinkle.

After all the chores , breakfast and walks are finished it was time for a quick nap and then off to the folk concert here in the country.

Today's concert was far from the intimate session last night with song and those around the fire. Last night was a bit melancholy singing and watching the fire. It was what a lot of us crave and were looking for.  Kindness and kinship evolves from a simple fire, a mandolin, guitars and many voices.

Today was an open air full of sun concert in a field full of wonderful songs of the mountains and working farmers.  Those who were early were the ones that camped out last night after the bonfire had gone out. 

There were lawn chairs, picnics, blankets, and grills in the parking area with families around them waiting for something tasty. The weather was perfect, a cool 70*.

I opened a nearby town's newspaper and saw an article of the very festivities we were attending.

We needed to leave early but the few hours we saw, we had a marvelous and magical time and we can't wait to do again next year. 

I dropped my mom off and picked up my glass creations we made last week.  They were finished from their firings in the kiln. 

My dear friend Susan's plate came out gorgeous. I thought it was beautiful. 

My sushi plate and dipping sides plates.  I love the way they turned out. 

Plus the necklaces I made from the scraps.  A start of collecting gifts for Christmas.

Dinner had been put in the crock-pot earlier in the day.  I adapted this recipe . http://www.momontimeout.com/.../slow-cooker-kielbasa-and.../  

 I use pork ends, chipotle  raspberry bacon,  garbanzo beans and our canned pintos, I used a German sausage from a local butchered pig, I added a small can of crushed tomatoes, garlic, and honey instead of syrup.  The rest was the same.

It turned out wonderful.

I was so happy my mom could spend the weekend with us and enjoy a bit of the country. 

I am exhausted and planning on being in bed by 9pm!

Garden update, farrier comes to visit and old fashion bonfire and sing-a-long

Well, here it is Friday.  It began rough with the pumphouse  leaking running water out from under it. We knew the awesome water pressure in the house was too good to be true.  Dude went on hunch it was the switch and replaced it.  His hunch was good and after many cuss words, he had the water back up and running .

I went to work in the greenhouse after chores.

Looks like tomatoes but it's okra.

Plants outside are growing but our soil (even after 2 years of working with it) is no good. 

We have vowed next year to have raised beds outside like we have in the greenhouse. 

The farriers came to work on the horses hooves and asked.... How far along is your horse?  HUH??  Yep, looks likes she about 4 months pregnant.  What the heck?  We got her about 3 months ago. Since we don't know definitely, we will be calling the vet to confirm sometime soon. 

After work we headed to the John Denver Fest just down the road from us. Tonight was the bonfire for everyone travelling in.  Tomorrow is the all day music beginning at 2pm with a flyover at 130pm from our town's finest.... the crop duster.  Smile.  This is the country life.

I guess this fest has been going on for three years and it is just down the dirt road from us. 

Let's get this party started.

People came from all over... we met people from Chicago, Australia, and all over Colorado. Everyone was welcome and it was all free. We drove up and many people had campers and tents all set up .

We brought my mom from the city to come and enjoy a bit of our country life.  

Everyone sang. There were folk songs from John Denver, Peter, Paul and Mary, Gordon Lightfoot and so many more.  The fire felt good since the temps were only in the 60* today.

Everyone shared sausages, pepper cheese, and marshmallows. Foiled potatoes and corn on the cob were thrown on the fire. 

I can't wait for tomorrow for more music.
