Day 3 of the Jesse Tree, tried a no-bake bar, and window herbs

Today is day 3 of the Jesse Tree. 

December 3 - Noah: Genesis 6:5-19; 7:16-24; 8:1, 6-11,15-22 Symbol: ark 

I cut a template from cardboard of the Ark, then two out of felt. I glued the cardboard between the felt and added the red windows. Then used a hole punch to string it up.

Day one - felted earth. 

Day 2 -- Apple ornament. 

I cut 3 apples from card stock (cut an extra since I was just testing my theory of how it might work) .  Leave one flat. The other two fold in half and glue them, one to each side of the flat one making it 3D. 

The first cookies of the season were made today. I used to love that my mom would have all kinds of treats for anyone who would stop by.  She would get out her tiered plates and put out a wonderful selection of treats.  Today I decided to try an no-bake chocolate oatmeal bar.  I love the no-bake cookies that are similar but these have way less sugar...but alot of butter (mo butter, mo better).  They turned out great. I popped them in the freezer for the season .

About a week ago I decide to try forcing seeds indoors.  These are my purple and green basil.   So far they are doing really well. I have them in the kitchen window.

I wanted to get more done than it did this morning before heading to work but I had to clean up all the crafting mess I created yesterday!

(My grandsons love to grow stuff too. This is for one of them ...and how I feel about cleaning house!)

I did get some herbs dried.  Here is some parsley. We use a lot of parsley in the winter.

In the dehydrator now is basil. They did great this year in the garden. I snipped enough off for drying and I left enough to make pesto this weekend to freeze.  The pesto is great on burgers and sandwiches besides putting on pasta and vegetables.

Saturday , finishing up the month

The morning was spent running errands... bank, the butcher, and finished up end of month stuff at work. 

Then home to do the things we love.  We have begun to read after our dinner.  Dude  read Treasure Island out loud while I repotted my plants.  It was kind of funny listening to a land lock man read about pirates and the salty seas.  I grew up where Black Beard roamed and they will be celebrating the 300th  year of defending themselves from Spaniard pirates in August … all in good fun. They will reinact a pirate invasion like they do every year.

I separated my mother-in-law tongue plant. One plant became five and they are a good way to make a little money.

They are also known as Snake plants or Saint George's Swords.

They are great to put in your bedroom for better sleep converting CO2 to oxygen at night. They are super easy to grow and they multiply like crazy each year. 

It suddenly got cold (in the 50's) and began to lightly rain with winds howling. 

I finished planting basil for in the house ...since the hail storms keep destroying my herb garden this year. 

And made more bowl holders for the microwave while it rain. 

Later Norman told us the rain had stopped and it was time for a walk. 

The corn is bouncing back

But we could see where the water was rushing 2 weeks ago during the tornado that was nearby. 

It looks like the water came across the road and into part of the corn. 

We came home and tucked all the animals in … the baby turkeys. 

Our visiting turkey turned resident comes back every night. We named it Kerouac.

This is Mufasa, our one rooster... we hope!

The girls all came in for the evening. 

Prudence says, give me a kiss. 

Molly wants a few good scratches please. 

Everyone is tucked in and it is time to crochet.  I am practicing my Spanish watching Frozen on Telemundo channel  - smile.  I am not very good.

Sunday - garden, dehydrating, cards, fence repairs.

We did go out last night and had a stakeout.  We probably looked hilarious. Two mid-aged farts in the dark protecting our animals - me with the flashlight and Dude with a rifle (just in case).  We did catch the eyes of a fox soon on.  We were out there for an hour, the goats standing behind us giving their commentary and me telling them to hush.  Every time I got the fox's eyes he would slowly duck down and then back up. After a while he gave up or we couldn't see him any more. Not sure if it is the fox or the coyotes we hear nightly that got our chickens but we will do what we can to protect our animals and keep them locked up safe at night.

We need rain.  I watered again today.  I had put away the hoses (it was snowing this time last year) and had to get them back out.

The basil made a comeback after the frost. 

Time to dry parsley today. 

We will dry lavender tonight and hopefully it will dry and help us sleep. 

Picked carrots, collards and the very last of the tomatoes for this week. 

We finally let the hens roam today and they went straight for the goat pen. 

Heading out to do fence repairs and had some help from Peppermint our milk goat. 

Came in and made a boatload of potato chip cookies. 

Next was cleaning the coop. I like to add a mixture of mint, lavender and roses to the coop. Smells great, is an insecticide and calms hens. 

I use straw in the laying boxes.

And pine chips in the coop. 

Sprinkle with the herb mixture. ahhhh

Then I did have time to make some cards from a kit.  

Hoping to cut out a dress tonight. I am so glad we had an extra hour today with Daylight Savings Time.
