Pup - Norman gets a visit from his brother and what we make from this and that

Friends stopped by today and brought along Norman's brother Von. They were so happy to see each other.

They wrestled and played for a long time.

The guess came to see what the commotion was all about.

The guineas cheered them on .

They just couldn't get enough of each other!

My young friends came in to get creative. Painting was first.

They also tested a few marshmallow guns.

Norman's brother did an awesome job on the treadmill.

Then the human brothers made bottles of potions, decoration boxes for secret treasures, stamped candles and...

... snacks for the road.  We mixed this and that what we had around the house... leftover Halloween candy, pretzels, nuts, chocolate, and puffed cereal.

All, oh so good !

Dinner was chicken potpie casserole.  The chicken was two pint jars of canned rooster we had canned the end of last year.  Roosters can be tough but when you roast and can them, sitting in the broth, creates tender meat.  I didn't have sour cream so I used mayonnaise, I didn't have cheddar cheese but I had a bit of American cheese, port wine cheese, Swiss and a little jalapeƱo cheese. Added mixed frozen veggies, cream of chicken, garlic powder, and a bit of salt and pepper topped with flakey canned biscuits.  Baked  at  375* for 20 minutes.

Turned out pretty good.

Happy Sunday Funday to everyone.

Turkey day, pup learns to sing and evening mass

Today is the day we took the turkeys to the butcher. It is USA's Thanksgiving Day on Thursday and you can't get any fresher than this.

We packed them up. The geese were not happy their roommates were leaving and were honking loudly. The turkeys were just surprised they were caged up and quietly looked on.  It was cold outside so we worked quickly to get everyone packed.

The farther southeast we go the more snow we encountered.

By the time we got there, there was a long line in front of us.

We has a two hour wait so we went out to lunch. As we looked for somewhere to eat we turned on the radio to sing.  Norman has been watching us all week as we worked and jammed to the music. Today was his day.  He sang his little heart out.

And, at times, sang back up. What a dog.

It was a long day. We got home around 3pm.  I had an hour before I would leave to take my mom to Saturday evening mass.

The sermon tonight was to treasure the people in our lives.  Don't take them for granted. Thanksgiving should be a celebration of what we are thankful for and people God brings into our lives.  It's a time to listen and take in the treasures of those around us, especially the children. It is not a time to hold grudges or argue with family. Remember to be careful what you say - our children are listening.  Model what you are thankful for.  "Children are like wet cement; whatever falls on them leaves an impression." Show them conversations of respect and appreciation.
Remember to breathe this week.
It is only a meal, it's the people we are surrounded by that are important.  Pray to St Martha, the patron saint of hospitality and St Benedict who said when someone comes to your home treat them like Jesus Christ because Christ is inside all of us.
Live with joy.
Be thankful.
Love those who are treasures in your life.
Remember we are Children of the Light

A craft, a recipe and pup update

I went to the Dollar Store and got a bag of  lollipops like DumDums and Tootsie Pops. Dude found the bag and said, "Aw nice, you got me candy."  Hmmm, yeah, no. (I found this idea on pintrest) I asked him to drill small holes in one of plastic skulls we had leftover from last year.  Dude drilled holes all over the head and all I did was insert the lollies. I love the way it turned out.

Darling! You look much better!

The zucchini is finally coming in. This year I planted both yellow and green zucchini. This recipe is one my kids like and would eat.

Here is what I did:
Saute onion and garlic in 2 tablespoons of butter.  While that is sauteing slice two medium zucchinis and grab a handful of cherry tomatoes from the garden. Toss them in the pan, salt and pepper the whole lot. Then, in a small bowl combine 1/4 of cup of water and 2 tablespoons of flour, 1 tablespoon oregano and 1 teaspoon of basil .  Make a whole in the middle of the pan and pour in, stirring quickly.  That's it.  Tastes great .

Our new puppy is doing well. Puppies are quite a handful at this age and get into everything. We are just glad he is now sleeping all night and appears to be potty trained... I hope.
